I really like the picture, but I LOVE the haiku. I don’t usually go for the strict 5-7-5 version, but this one does great. I’m seldom caught off guard. This one caught me. Great. I simply love it. I wish I wrote it. Seriously.
Thank you for your kind words. I usually don’t write haikus myself since I’m more of a tanka kind of girl. This was one of my first haikus if not my very first. It’s on my blog somewhere. I think I wrote it last February. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for your time and thoughts on my blog.
Oddly enough, tankas are mainly what I wrote when I first started writing poetry. I just created a Tanka and Haiku category on my blog. Here’s the link if you’re interested: http://melindafoshat.wordpress.com/category/tankas-and-haikus/
I have a few other tankas that I still need to post.
Love this one Melissa. I don’t play with haikus a lot but enjoy them when they are strong. For me it speaks to me in that when one says certain words to make one feel needed it does indeed refer to the static when they are uttered without truth behind them. Just a take.

I look forward to your tanka. I’m fascinated by the form; I just have no skill in it.

Reblogged this on tenderandstrong and commented:
Insightful – Haiku reminds me of a prodigal’s plight!

Thank you Jobina! I read this comment the other day and it inspired me to write a poem entitled “Prodigal’s Plight.” The link is here: http://melindafoshat.wordpress.com/2014/09/26/the-prodigals-plight/ Thanks for the inspiration! (:
